Spike Kohlbecker won the final race of the 2019 BRSCC National championship season at Brands Hatch by a small margin of 0.135 seconds to Rory Smith.
Kohlbecker held on for a lights-to-flag victory despite Smith making up a three-second deficit late on in the race to challenge for the lead.
In the early stages of the race there was a three-way battle for second between Joey Foster, James Clarke and Smith. This allowed Kohlbecker to pull away on the drying track until Smith was clear to pursue.
Smith continued to close the gap down on Kohlbecker – recording the fastest lap of the race – and was on his gearbox in the closing few laps. Smith had his best chance to try to challenge on the final lap but he was unable to make a move stick on the leader, despite a better run out of Graham Hill Bend.
Smith taking the second spot was essential in his battle for third in the championship against Clarke, who finished third in the race ahead of Foster.
Foster however had the two earlier race winners, Luke Cooper and Michael Eastwell, on his tail. Later in the race however Eastwell started to drop back, and just held off Jamie Sharp at the end to take sixth place.
Jonathan Browne had moved ahead of Sharp earlier in the race but went off at Surtees on the final lap, dropping him back to eighth at the chequered flag.
Best of the Club racers was Max Marzorati who finished the race in 12th. Marzorati, Adam Quartermaine and Pascal Monbaran were covered by just 0.6s at the chequered flag.
Despite a great recovery drive in race two, Kenny Cowie dropped to the back of the pack early on in the race and eventually retired on lap 12 of 18 after a spin.
