Tom Brown held off Joe Porter before the red flag brought a premature end to Zig Zag Lighting Heritage Formula Ford 1600 championship race one at Donington Park.
Brown lost the lead to Jaap Blijleven at the start after the Dutchman got ahead into Redgate. Brown regained the lead by the end of the first lap however, with Porter starting to mount pressure on Blijleven.
Porter got his Van Diemen ahead of Blijleven by the end of the second lap and quickly began to turn his attentions towards the leader.
He subsequently set a string of fastest laps to close the lead to just over two seconds to Brown. However, the race was brought to a premature end on lap six after Neil Hunt and Christopher Stones collided at Old Hairpin, with the race being red flagged and eventually not restarted.
This confirmed Brown as the winner ahead of Porter, with Blijleven coming home just a few seconds further behind.
Fourth went the way of Matt Bedford in his Mondiale M85, the Heritage FF1600 debutant performing strongly to pull away from the battle for fifth.
Tom Roark was fighting Hunt and Stones for the position before the pair had their tangle, allowing him an easy path to close out the top five in his Van Diemen machine.
Sixth across the line was Nick Barnes in his Swift, while Mark de Rozarieux recovered from an early spin to secure seventh ahead of the pre-82 class winner Simon Davey.
The top 10 was closed out by a pair of PRS cars, with Oliver Chapman leading home Colin Williams’ for ninth place after the red flag.
