Luke Cooper beats Smith and Eastwell to Champion of Brands pole

Luke Cooper returned to Brands Hatch and took pole in qualifying in his Swift Cooper for the fourth meeting of the Champion of Brands.

CCRC regular Cooper faced competition from Rory Smith and Michael Eastwell, who qualified second and third, but were unable to match Cooper’s pace as he bested his own time twice towards the end of the 15-minute session with a final time of 50.209s.

After setting the early pace, Smith – the only previous Champion of Brands in the field albeit at Donington Park – set a best time of 50.340s and Eastwell, who briefly held provisional pole mid-session, set a 50.395. Davide Meloni will line up alongside Eastwell in fourth with a time of 51.010.

Thomas Cappezzone and Max Marzorati qualified fifth and sixth, with Adam Fathers lining up in seventh after a competitive showing at his home circuit. Richard Mendoza will line up alongside Fathers on the grid.

Paul Mason and Shaun Macklin will make up the fifth row, with Ian Jeary and Andrew Pryke behind after setting closely-matched laptimes.

John Whitbourn and Innes Hickman qualified 13th and 14th, with Terry Durdin and Simon Pruce 15th and 16th.

Mark Adkins and Ben Hadfield round out the 18-car field.
