Rory Smith claimed pole for the first BRSCC Avon Tyres National FF1600 race on Brands Hatch’s Indy layout in a wet stop-start qualifying session.
The B-M Racing driver jumped to the top of the times just before the red flags brought an early end to the 15 minute session.
After setting the pace early in the session, Kevin Mills Racing’s Neil MacLennan was knocked back to second, 0.264 seconds behind Smith.
Spike Kohlbecker took third for Cliff Dempsey Racing, ahead of Team Dolan’s championship leader Ross Martin and the second CDR car of Jonathan Browne.
Two red flags disrupted running, as Adam Quatermaine and Aaron Jeansonne ran into the gravel in separate incidents.
Dolan’s Quatermaine ran off at Clearways just five minutes into the session, pausing running as his Van Diemen was cleared from the gravel. The session resumed with 10 minutes left on the clock, but came to an end just five minutes later as Jeansonne stuck his Oldfield Motorsport-ran Van Diemen in the gravel at Druids.
James Clarke ended the session in sixth, with Border Reivers’ Jamie Thorburn, Jeansonne, and Dolan duo Jamie Sharp and Morgan Quinn completing the top 10.
Max Marzorati was the quickest Clubman class driver in 12th, a full second clear of rival Henry Chart.
