Graham Brunton Racing’s guest Scottish Formula Ford driver Matt Cowley took a second win of the Knockhill David Leslie Trophy meeting in another intense drag race to the finish line.
Polesitter Cowley, who beat championship leader Jordan Gronkowski by 0.106 seconds in race one of the weekend, continued his form as the winning margin decreased to 0.074s in their second battle.
Cowley got away well from pole position, setting initial fastest laps before Gronkowski started another session of attack on the GBR-run Ray.
He initially attempted an overtake on the outside through Taylor’s Hairpin, but he could not manage to cut back out onto the start-finish straight.
His next move in the contest involved moving to the inside of the hairpin and taking the lead before Cowley got onto the right-hand side of the straight and took back control.
The two went side-by-side on two occasions before a frantic final lap of 12 which included Cowley sliding and losing momentum out of Clark’s corner.
Both were level into the final approaches of the lap with Gronkowski on the outside of the hairpin but Cowley had better traction approaching the finish, moving marginally ahead.
Due to Cowley’s guest status, the result again gives Gronkowski all 26 points for win and fastest lap and pulls him further ahead in the championship standings.
Neil Broome finished a lonely third and gains 20 points to move him into outright second in the points as the nearest challenger, 90 behind with 130 remaining.
Logan Hannah was fourth, while Matthew Chisholm came out ahead in a battle with Steve Barlow over fifth.
Chisholm took to the inside of Barlow at Duffus to move in front with three laps remaining.
James Pinkerton was seventh as he got more mileage of the track, while his Rotor Racing team-mate Kenny Cowie failed to finish after completing two laps which included a battle for fourth.
