Morris wins race two after battle with Harvey

Rick Morris won the second race of the Luna Logistics Classic Formula Ford 1600 Championship round at Thruxton after a race-long battle with Tim Harvey.

Morris started fourth and had to pass both Mark Armstrong and Kevin Mansell in the opening laps before he could start attacking Tim Harvey (Van Diemen RF81).

He first passed Harvey on the third lap, after passing Armstrong and Mansell in the first two laps, to set up a battle that would last the next 11 laps in the 20-minute race.

With tow being an all important tool at Thruxton, the two overtook each other lap after lap before Morris ended up victorious despite Harvey having the tow on the final lap.

It was a reduced field from the 12-car entry in race one with Mansell (Crossle 32F) crossing the line in third place – some 17s behind race-winner Morris.

Mansell’s race could be described as a lonely one with Stuart Kestenbaum (Van Diemen RF79) finishing around 18s behind Mansell.

Ben Hadfield crossed the line as the last classified finisher and ended up 1m23s behind race winner Morris.

David Lowe, Mike Gardner and Mark Harrison all missed the second race after various issues in the opening race.

Craig Currie also failed to start the second race.

Mark Armstrong, Will Zanelli and Steve Pearce all retired from the second race.
