Harvey wins at Thruxton after Morris and Harrison collide on last lap

Tim Harvey won the first Luna Logistics Classic Formula Ford Championship round at Thruxton after a last lap incident between Rick Morris and Jordan Harrison.

Morris and Harrison had spent most of the race in a tight battle for the lead with Harvey trailing behind in third after dropping off the tow.

He had attempted to make a pass past Harrison at the first chicane but they slightly touched and Harvey lost momentum.

Morris lost the lead to Harrison on the second lap but he got the place back five laps later and defended the position right up until the last lap.

On the final lap Harrison passed Morris for the lead but Harrison went wide into into the last chicane, lost the back end and hit Morris.

Morris managed to recover to finish fourth while Harrison failed to cross the line.

The accident meant that Harvey was able to take the win with Kevin Mansell and Mark Armstrong taking second and third respectively.

Mike Gardner, who had started third, fell down the field early on and retired on lap five.

Stuart Kestenbaum finished fifth in his Van Diemen RF79 ahead of Craig Currie in sixth.

Steve Pearce ended up seventh and Will Zanelli was eight seconds behind in ninth.

Harrison was classified ninth, having completed more laps than Ben Hadfield who  crossed the line 10th, a lap down on the leaders.

The only other retirement from the race was the Lotus 69FF of David Lowe.
