Ivor McCullough scores double win in Kirkistown FF1600 cameo

A cameoing Ivor McCullogh stole the headlines in the latest Dawson WAM Northern Ireland FF1600 races at Kirkistown, scoring two wins in a grid shared with Formula Sheane cars

Ivor, brother of championship leader David McCullough, was beaten to pole by FSheane competitor Brian Hearty by just 0.036 seconds, with a further three of the invitees separating McCullough from next best FF1600 driver Alan Davidson.

The FSheane drivers were grouped together on the race one grid though, leaving the McCullough brothers and Davidson to fight for victory.

Davidson led the battle early on, with Ivor McCullough only establishing himself in the lead in the second half of the race. He pulled out a two second lead as Will Herron joined the battle for second.

The title outsider ended up prevailing in the battle for position, just edging Davidson and David McCullough to the line.

In race two, Herron couldn’t keep up his challenge and it was a fight for second between Davidson and David McCullough as Ivor took an easy win.

This time there were two McCulloughs on the podium, with David taking second place by 0.095s.

Herron finished fourth, ahead of the distant but impressive Cameron Fenton. The teenager had his strongest weekend yet in his Mondiale, with two fifth places jumping him up to ninth in the standings.

Making a similar leap was Ivor McCullough, already a two-time Formula Ford Festival winner and Irish FF1600 champion, who in just two races is already sixth in the points and mathematically could win the title.
