Tom Brown claims Heritage pole in red-flagged session at Oulton

Tom Brown secured pole for the first race of the 2019 Zig Zag Lighting Ltd Heritage Formula Ford Championship in a red-flagged qualifying at Oulton Park.

Brown, competing in his father Dave’s Van Diemen RF91 this weekend as a late entry, set the quickest lap on his opening gambit with a 1m 56.330s, smashing championship leader Oliver White’s opening effort of 1m 58.788s.

White then struck back, posting a 1m 54.902s on his second lap to move back ahead of Brown at the head of the timesheets.

Brown was not to be denied though, and banged in a 1m 53.902 tour to move back into provisional pole. This was to be the duelling pair’s final efforts though, as a red flag just past the halfway point of the session brought an early end to the session after an incident involving Joe Porter at Druids.

Behind them in third position came the Van Diemen RF89 of Neil Patten, while Sam Street and Jaap Blijeven, who sits third in the championship standings after the first round at Donington Park, rounded out the top five in their Swift RC92 and Reynard 88F machines respectively.

Scott Gunthrie and Tom Roark followed next in sixth and seventh in their Crossle 32F and Van Deimen RF92 examples, while Neil Hunt snatched eighth in his classic Mondiale M92S.

Rounding out the top ten for the first race of the weekend were the Van Diemen RF88 and Swift RC92’s of Peter Lucas and Paul Barnes.
