Neil Fowler Motorsport’s Cameron Jackson beat Classic Team Merlyn’s Benjamin Tusting to Historic Formula Ford pole at Cadwell Park by just 0.196 seconds.
Jackson set the pole lap in his Winkelmann midway through the session, with Classic Team Merlyn duo Tusting and Pierre Livingston separated by fellow Merlyn driver Callum Grant.
Grant was strong around the twisty Lincolnshire circuit last year and will be looking to get one over the title-fighting drivers around him on the grid.
Tusting briefly led the session but Jackson resumed his customary lead fairly promptly. The CTM team-mates occupied second and third until Grant’s best effort in the closing minutes, which was built on a rapid first sector time.
Dan Eagling’s Merlyn will start fifth in what is a compact grid of 20 cars, having nipped ahead of the Elden-driving Danny Stanzl late on.
Rob Smith leads the Radio Caroline Over 50 class once more, a scant 0.049s ahead of Ted Pearson. Both drive Merlyns, as does Matt Wrigley, who will start behind them in ninth overall. Brian Morris’s Lola completed the qualifying top 10.
