Nigel Dolan claimed his first outright BRSCC Avon Tyres Northern FF1600 race victory after an epic battle with Jack Wolfenden in the second race at Mallory Park.
Dolan, driving a Van Diemen, took the lead from surprise race one winner Simon Hadfield early on, building up a three-second advantage over the Lotus 51.
Wolfenden, starting 11th after his last lap collision with James Hadfield in the first race, carved through the field, moving up to second with a few laps to go.
A thrilling late battle for the lead then developed, with Wolfenden moving alongside Dolan several times, but Dolan clung on to take the win by just 0.023s from the Firman driver.
Hadfield held on to claim the final spot on the podium after a similarly close fight for third, the historic racer just holding off Mark Bates in the Van Diemen. Hadfield claimed victory in the Super Classic D class, while Bates won in Super Classic A.
Peter Daly finished fifth, a further nine seconds behind the pair, the Van Diemen driver taking the win in Super Classic B, with Swift runner Alaric Gordon finishing sixth.
Joe Porter, who ran in second place early on, finished 0.4s behind Gordon in seventh after a spin at the hairpin.
Stuart Kestenbaum finished eighth overall in the Crossle 16F, again taking second in the Super Classic D class behind Hadfield.
Simon Clews, the sole runner in Super Classic C, finished a further 23s behind in his Royal PR24, with ‘Juicie Bruceie’ a lap down in 10th.
Super Classic leader Andrew Schofield retired from the race after 14 laps, despite running as high as fifth.
James Hadfield did not start after his last lap collision with Wolfenden in race one.
