Felix Fisher took pole for round 3 of the Castle Combe FF1600 Championship sponsored by Melksham Motor Spares at Castle Combe this morning in a session punctuated by red flags.
Felix Fisher and Josh Fisher swapped fastest times for the opening 10 minutes with Felix Fisher coming out on top before the first red flag of the scheduled 15-minute session came out to remove Tom Hawkins’ damaged Ray.
Shortly after the session was resumed, before anybody could set a lap time, it was red flagged again after the Swift of James Rose also had to be removed.
As a result of the multiple delays, and with just four minutes remaining at the time of the second red flag, the session was not restarted.
Reigning Combe champion Luke Cooper finished with the third fastest time – 0.788s behind the pole time of Fisher.
Double Formula 1 Esports champion Brendon Leigh qualified sixth on his debut at the Castle Combe circuit with fellow additional entry Thomas McArthur in seventh, over two seconds behind.
Chris Acton will start today’s race from fourth with Hawkins qualifying fifth, despite his crash, only 0.016s behind.
Matthew Hallam, Bob Higgins and James Colborn rounded out the top 10 with Colborn taking Class C honours in the process.
Shaun Macklin qualified as the fastest Class B runner in 11th with Steve Bracegirdle in 12th and Alex Rivett just 0.035s behind in 13th.
Alan Slater finished the session in 14th as the leading Class D runner.
Michael Phillips and James Rose completed the session in 15th and 16th respectively to round out the field which is reduced drastically from last month’s meeting.
