Rory Smith snatches late Oulton Park pole

B-M Racing driver Rory Smith snatched pole position late in qualifying for the opening round of the BRSCC Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford 1600 championship at Oulton Park.

The reigning Champion of Oulton went fastest on his final lap of the session, lapping three quicker faster two-time Scottish Formula Ford 1600 champion Ross Martin, who had led most of the session driving for Team Dolan

Jack Wolfenden qualified third in his Firman RFR17, a further seven tenths behind.

David McArthur went fourth fastest, 1.3s off Smith’s pole time, though his brother Tom McArthur will start from the back after an accident. Exiting Old Hall, his Medina Sport span off into the barriers, causing a brief red flag before he’d managed to set a lap.

Nigel Dolan and Team Dolan rookie Jamie Sharp ere fifth and sixth fastest, 1.5s and 1.7s off Smith’s reference lap respectively.

Ian Schofield was the fastest in Super Classic B, qualifying ninth overall in his Reynard FF88.

Schofield will start with a two-car gap over nearest rival Juiceie Bruceie, who lines up 12th, behind Adam Quartermaine and Nicole Woods.

Seamus Wild, running in Super Classic A, qualified 13th overall, with Phil Nelson 15th overall in Super Classic D class.
