Champion of Brands Festival National News Walter Hayes Trophy

Ex-F3 racer Henry Chart switches to Oldfield Motorsport for 2019

Former Formula 3 racer Henry Chart will switch to Oldfield Motorsport for 2019, contesting two part-time campaigns along with appearances at the Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy.

Oldfield will run Chart’s Van Diemen MS13, which was previously raced by Wayne Boyd to victory in the 2014 WHT, in both BRSCC Avon Tyres National FF1600 and Champion of Brands.

Chart has committed to three rounds of the National season, starting with the Snetterton season-opener in April, taking in the first Brands Hatch Indy round in July, and then finishing with Silverstone National in September.

His status as a Pro or Clubman entrant has yet to be decided, though he has entered as the latter in the past two years.

Races at Brands Hatch will form the backbone of Chart’s varied FF1600 campaign, with the Champion of Brands round in late July also on his schedule along with the Festival. He will also race at Champion of Brands’ season-opening away round at Donington Park in April.

His last scheduled appearance with Oldfield for 2019 is at the WHT in November, though team principal James Oldfield has suggested more events could be added to Chart’s programme as the year progresses.

Oldfield also confirmed that Chart will be entered as the team’s third driver in National FF1600 events, with two full-time signings still to be made for this season.

Chart spent much of 2018 on the sidelines, appearing only at the Silverstone National round of BRSCC Northern FF1600 along with the FFord Festival and WHT. In all three cases he ran as part of Enigma Motorsport’s set-up, for whom he drove in Formula 3.

He switched from MotorSport Vision’s F3 Cup for older-spec F3 cars to FFord in 2016, scoring a win and three podiums in National FF1600’s Clubman Post-’89 class in 2017, enough for a career-best ninth in the championship.
