BRSCC Avon Tyres National FF1600 runner-up Michael Eastwell will compete in the special Bathurst 12 Hours-supporting Formula Ford event at Mount Panorama Circuit this month.
The event is open to FF1600 cars of all ages, and is a collaborative effort between the FFord Association and Historic FFord Australia to celebrate 50 years of FFord racing in the country. Practice, qualifying and the first race will take place on January 31, with two more races on each of the following days.
Eastwell won the Tourist Trophy title and Champion of Brands twice in 2018, as well as finishing runner-up in National and the Triple Crown. Although he’s not raced in Australia, he’s got mileage abroad from racing in the F2000 Championship Series and the Road to Indy Shootout in the USA.
“Here’s my first big announcement of 2019!” Eastwell declared on his social media.
“I will be racing a Formula Ford at Bathurst’s Mount Panorama in just over a week’s time with Ellery Motorsport. Very excited to have this opportunity. Bathurst has always been a track that I’ve been desperate to race on.
“I met Luke and Alice [Ellery, team owners] a couple of years ago at the Walter Hayes Trophy in England, it turned out that the Spectrum Chassis we imported from Australia was one of Luke’s previous cars he’d raced in. We got talking from there and have been friends ever since.”
Eastwell will use a Spectrum 010 in Australia, an older car than the Spectrum 011C he’s used in Britain.
“I’m very happy to be racing with the team for the Bathurst 12hr support race, the car looks tremendous and drives equally just as well! I know they will give me the best equipment, just up to me now,” he added.
