Kevin Mills Racing has signed Scottish teenager Michael Macpherson as its first driver for the 2019 Avon Tyres BRSCC National FF1600 season.
Macpherson, who made his FF1600 debut for Graham Brunton Racing in Scottish Formula Ford last year, was forced to sit out this season’s Scottish championship due to budget constraints.
The Highland driver made his comeback with the same outfit in October’s Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
The 17-year-old had his first run in a KMR Spectrum in November alongside fellow Scot Neil Maclennan at this year’s final Champion of Brands round, recording a best result of third.
Announcing Macpherson on the team’s Facebook page, a team statement said: “After finishing P3 in a Champion of Brands race on his debut with KMR, it became a priority for us to keep Michael with us into 2019.
“Here’s hoping he can get the same results as the other Michaels we’ve had in our team!”
A prodigious go-karter, Macpherson graduated to British Super One in 2014 and was selected as one of the Scottish Motor Racing Club’s Rising Stars the following year.
Macpherson, son of former FF1600 driver Mike, picked up three podium finishes in his rookie season of FF1600 en route to sixth place in the Scottish FF1600 standings.
