The BRSCC Avon Tyres National FF1600 Championship will return to Wales in 2019 after a one year absence, in a heavily revised calendar.
This year the championship supported TCR UK for seven of its eight rounds, with the overseas Kirkistown round being the exception. An expanded TCR calendar for 2019 has prompted National FF1600 to drop off the support programme for several rounds.
The revised calendar – which remains provisional – will start with a triple-header at Snetterton on April 20/21, and will be followed a month later by two races at Oulton Park on May 11. Both will be supporting TCR rounds.
On June 8/9 the championship will make a three race return to Anglesey in Wales, before another two TCR-supporting triple-headers at Croft and Brands Hatch Indy in July.
Kirkistown remains on the calendar on August 23/24, with Silverstone National switching from its early season 2018 slots to the penultimate meeting on the calendar on September 14/15.
In addition to skipping TCR UK rounds on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit and at Spa, BRSCC National FF1600 will also be missing from its supporting programme at Donington Park. The latter event is a week before the expected date of the Formula Ford Festival, which in turn is a before the Walter Hayes Trophy weekend. It has been decided that three major FF1600 events in three weekends would not be viable, hence the championship ending with a second visit to Brands Hatch on 28/29 September.
Two of the events – at Croft and Silverstone – appear to directly clash with scheduled rounds of the Castle Combe FF1600 Championship, while another two are set to take place on different days in the same weekend, leading to complications for teams planning to contest both.
BRSCC Northern FF1600, the sister championship to National, is yet to have its calendar finalised.
