Rory Smith takes Walter Hayes Heat 5 pole position

B-M Racing’s Rory Smith took pole position for Heat 5 of the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone, beating Jake Craig by just over a tenth of a second.

Driving his usual Medina, Smith’s time of 1m02.357s was enough to beat Cliff Dempsey Racing’s Jake Craig to first place.

Team USA Scholarship driver Craig posted a time of 1m02.491s for second place and beat Joey Foster (Firman) by 0.003s in a tight battle.

Smith, Craig, Foster and David McArthur were all within a tenth of each other before Smith’s final lap extended the gap.

Callum Grant (Van Diemen) was fifth after setting a 1m03.595s, over a second off the pace. Neil Broome was sixth in a Ray ahead of Getem Racing’s Jason Down (Ray) and Samuel Street (Swift).

Ninth was recent Graham Brunton Racing recruit Logan Hannah, with Maxime Lebreton and Graham Woodwin (both Van Diemen) in 10th and 11th respectively.

Westie Mitchell was 12th with a 1m05.172s, two tenths ahead of TM Racing’s Hayden Hardyman (Ray) in 13th and Souley Motorsport’s Chris Davison (Van Diemen) in 14th.

Eric Moulinet, Claire Greig and Damian Ditchfield rounded off the field.
