19th in Historic final, DNS in progression race, 16th in heat, 19th in qualifying [Heat 1]
Hart was the fastest Historic driver in his heat in his 1969 Mallock Mk9, but decided against continuing any further in the main part of the Walter Hayes, and only lined up again for the Historic final. In this he was dismally slow, being lapped by the top seven cars, and finished an unwanted 19th.
DNS in progression race, 16th in heat, 18th in qualifying [Heat 4]
Walsh had a weak weekend, being one of the slowest in qualifying and his heat. After finishing 16th, behind five racers in non-modern machinery, he put an end to his weekend.
DNS in semi-final, 8th in heat, 9th in qualifying [Heat 5]After a strong run during Thursday testing, Williams was hoping he could put his nightmare Festival behind him. However, after just three laps on the board on Friday his engine failed leading to a seven-hour grind installing a new one, as well as repairing a failed gear linkage. To make matters worse, a lack of power in the new engine saw him move up just one place to eighth in his heat. On Saturday afternoon, he admitted the team would leave if the issue wasn’t diagnosed and – true to his word – pulled out of the semi-finals after the engine couldn’t be repaired.
7th in historic final, DNS in progression race, DNF in heat, 14th in qualifying [Heat 5]
Doing well in the Historic final was the aim for Simms, and having been unimpressed with the driving standards in his heat, he decided to end his race early to protect his Jomo JMR007. Skipping the progression race was another aspect of this strategy, and he lined up fifth for the Historic final with an undamaged car. The lack of track time may have contributed to his inability to stay in fifth place, and he eventually finished seventh.
18th in historic final, DNS in progression race, 17th in heat, 18th in qualifying [Heat 6]
The 48-year-old Lotus 61 was certainly not the fastest car about, and therefore Pearson was rather restricted in what results he could get out of it. In qualifying he was only able to complete two laps, and finished his heat a lapped last. With the Historic final in mind he skipped the progression race, but from the rear of the grid could make little progress, and ended the race in 18th, 11 seconds behind fellow Lotus 61 driver Eric Lecluse.
DNF in heat, 16th in qualifying [Heat 3]
Fathers must have stepped out in front of a black cat on his way to Silverstone, as his luck deserted him on several occasions throughout the weekend. An accident at turn two in heat three put him out of the race with damaged suspension. His team worked hard to get him back up and running for the progression race the next day, but another lap one accident resulted in a trip to the medical centre with a dislocated toe.
DNF in progression race, DNF in heat, 11th in qualifying [Heat 6]
McAllister started his weekend in less than ideal circumstances, colliding with Robert Barrable in qualifying and beaching himself in the gravel at Brooklands. The collision bent the rear wishbone, and when his Mygale was being recovered the car was pulled forward while in gear, destroying the drive on it. He was given compensation to start his heat from the back of the grid, but didn’t get to the end of that either, ending his race in the pits and three laps down thanks to the engine continually cutting out. He was still entered for the Progression race though, and rose from 21st to 14th on the first lap. That momentum didn’t last long though, losing two spots the next lap and then ending his weekend for good when the engine cut out once more.
Van Diemen RF90
16th in heat, 17th in qualifying [Heat 2]
It ended up being a difficult weekend for the Belgian. After qualifying 17th in wet conditions he wasn’t able to make up many positions in the heat race. He was able to get high up the grid during the opening lap of the progression race, but a collision with Vincent Jay saw him lose his left rear tyre and gain damage to the suspension of his car.
Van Diemen RF90
13th in pre93 final, 21st in progression race, 19th in heat, 20th in qualifying [Heat 2]
Woodin found the wet and greasy track conditions on Saturday a handful having only tested his Van Diemen once this year in August, and things didn’t seem to improve on Sunday morning when he got tagged during the progression race when causing him to spin out at Becketts. But things did improve for Woodin, who found himself in 13th in the consolation race just a few tenths ahead of Stephen Bracegirdle.
14th in historic final, 15th in heat, 13th in qualifying [Heat 2]
Hayes-Harlow struggled with car setup all weekend. He got a good start in his heat, but then his Merlyn’s engine cut out at the first corner due to a lack of fuel. It restarted, but he was not able to challenge for the lead. This was down to a carburation problem; he admitted to having fiddled with the carburettor too much. The car was running more reliably on Sunday and he got to the end of the Historic final.
This was his first time out in the Merlyn for a while. His son has been racing it this year.
Van Diemen VD79
16th in historic final, 20th in heat, 18th in qualifying [Heat 2]
The normally-reserved Sikstrom was furious with Graham Woodin after Heat 2. He blamed him for taking him out of the race and pronounced himself unimpressed with his driving skills.
For the rest of the meeting, Sikstrom managed to keep out of trouble. He tried to go further via the Progression race, but could only finish 19th.
17th in historic final, DNF in heat, 20th in qualifying [Heat 1]
After qualifying at the back of the grid for the first heat, Lecluse was involved in a first lap incident at Copse which ended in him taking the historic Lotus 61 back to the pits and retiring a lap later. The progression race went better but not well enough to make it to the last chance race, while he finished near the back during the historic final.
