Neil Maclennan secured pole position for heat two of the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch by the narrowest of margins from Matt Cowley.
Maclennan, making his first appearance in a Spectrum run by Kevin Mills Racing, achieved a time of 50.506 seconds early in the session and while Cowley improved to within 0.009s mid-session in his Van Diemen, he was unable to better Maclennan’s time.
Team USA Scholarship driver Jake Craig was third quickest in his Cliff Dempsey Racing Ray, just 0.020s slower than Maclennan’s pole time. Chris Middlehurst, who has finished in the Festival’s top five for each of the past two years, was fourth in his Van Diemen, now run by Team Dolan.
Stuart Gough was fifth quickest in his Oldfield Motorsport Van Diemen, while Ivor McCullough’s Van Diemen completed the top six. Peter Dempsey, the three-time Walter Hayes Trophy winner making his return to Formula Ford this weekend, was seventh, 0.5s off the pace.
Tom McArthur topped the Pre-1990 class in his Reynard 88FF, while Adriano Medeiros was the fastest Pre-1982 runner.
