Chinese Formula 4 champion Jordan Dempsey will return to Formula Ford 1600 to contest the 2018 Walter Hayes Trophy with Kevin Mills Racing.
Dempsey was a BRSCC National FF1600 race-winner last season, in a campaign spent mostly with long-time FFord racer father Morgan’s MCP team, and won Motorsport Ireland’s Young Driver of the Year accolade.
Alongside his Chinese F4 campaign, he also contested the Kirkistown and Croft National FF1600 rounds this season and achieved podium finishes at both.
He has previous experience with KMR having driven for the team in last year’s WHT – where it is a multiple winner. His latest deal is only for the Silverstone event and does not include this weekend’s FFord Festival.
Dempsey missed the first round of the F4 series while considering his options for the year, sampling Americas F3 as well, but dominated the Chinese championship after signing up to contest the rest of it with Pinnacle Motorsport.
He broke a finger in a crash in Wuhan when F4 supported the WTCR World Touring Car Cup at the street track earlier this month, but raced on and clinched the title at Ningbo last weekend.
“I’m absolutely delighted to win the Chinese F4 title,” Dempsey told FF1600website.
“We had a great weekend at Ningbo, being the quickest car all the way through and winning race one.”
