Luke Cooper claimed pole position for the Castle Combe FF1600 Championship sponsored by Melksham Motor Spares after a session-long battle with Michael Eastwell.
The duo battled it out throughout the 15-minute session with their two fastest times separated by just three hundredths of a second.
Cooper’s effort of 1m10.019s was enough to claim pole position after Eastwell posted a 1m10.051s earlier in the session.
Reigning CCRC FF1600 champion Josh Fisher (Van Diemen) posted the third best lap time with a 1m10.669, almost seven-tenths of a second slower than Cooper.
Roger Orgee, driving for Kevin Mills Racing in a Spectrum, was fourth with Wiltshire College Motorsport’s David Vivian in fifth.
Adam Higgins was sixth in his Spectrum, 1.507s off the pace of Cooper after setting a 1m11.526s lap time. Tom Hawkins qualified seventh after posting a 1m12.529s, two-and-a-half seconds off Cooper’s pole lap.
Paul Mason (Swift SC94) claimed pole position in Class B, ahead of Shaun Macklin (Swift SC92).
Steve Bracegirdle set the fastest Class C pole position with a 1m14.779s, with Matthew Hallam and Michael Phillips qualifying 11th and 12th behind him respectively.
The sole Class D entrant of Peter Hannam, driving a Nike 1970, was 13th on the grid with Alex Rivett rounding off the field with a time of 1m20.564s – two seconds slower than Hannam.
