Edwards takes Heritage Snetterton double after comfortable win

Formula 1 commentator Ben Edwards made it a double victory in Heritage Formula Ford Snetterton round sponsored by Two Whitecross Accountancy, with a comfortable race two win by over 10 seconds.

Race two was not as close an affair as race one, where Edwards in his Van Diemen RF92 and Chris Hodgen in his Van Diemen RF89 had battled closely for the lead.

This time around Edwards eased clear, having retained his lead from pole at the start. Edwards’ final victory margin over second-placed Hodgen was 13.1s.

“I got off the line that time,” Edwards said. “[It] still wasn’t the best start ever but I just had enough to be able to get in front. From then on it was head-down – the car was good.”

Edwards had escaped Hodgen’s clutches this time around thanks to breaking the tow of his nearest rival.

“Having done that it was a sense of relief, because if he’d been in my tow I wouldn’t have got rid of him – in the first race I couldn’t get rid of him!” Edwards continued.

“It was a bit of luck that I managed to make that break initially.”

Simon Jackson in his ex-Nigel Mansell Javelin claimed third place, 40.9s off Edwards but 6s clear of a close multi-car fight for fourth.

Van Diemen RF88 driver Mark de Rozarieux took the fourth from David Porter in his Van Diemen RF92 on the penultimate lap, leaving Porter to make do with fifth.

Alan Fincham in an RF80 took sixth place on his Heritage debut weekend, while race one podium finisher Simon Davey fell down the order in race two with a rough-sounding engine in his RF80 to finish a distant seventh after running in third early on.

Neil Hunt in his Mondiale M92S again finished eighth, getting to within 5s of Davey, while Paul Barnes in a Swift SC92F again pipped Robin Haslam in the Royale RP24 in the battle for ninth of the ten runners.
