Foster steals Oulton Park race two victory after Team Dolan implosion

Joey Foster took his second win of the season in the second BRSCC Avon Tyres National FF1600 race at Oulton Park, narrowly denying Niall Murray a double win.

Team Dolan driver Murray started from pole, but had a poor getaway. He dropped to sixth and handed the lead to Kevin Mills Racing’s Michael Eastwell. Murray’s team-mate Matt Round-Garrido, Swift Cooper’s Luke Cooper, Don Hardman Racing’s Foster and Cliff Dempsey Racing driver Jamie Thorburn also managed to pass him.

Murray quickly caught onto the back of the lead pack, picking off Thorburn on the second lap and Foster just before half distance.

Once he had got past Cooper for third it took just a few seconds before he was attempting a move for second on Eastwell, who had been overtaken by Round-Garrido earlier in the race.

This was where Murray’s progress stopped and he ended up quarrelling with his team-mate for position.

Foster was the chief beneficiary of this, pinching third from Cooper and heading into the final lap of the race on the tail of the two Team Dolan drivers.

He made his break for the lead at Cascades. Round-Garrido was defending from Murray through Old Hall, and then forced the Irishman to the right on the run-up to the corner. This left the left hand side free for Foster, who kept his foot in and passed both before the entry.

Murray kept the pressure up for the final lap, and drew alongside Foster at the finish line to finish just 0.032 seconds short of victory.

Eastwell and Cooper moved past Round-Garrido before the teenager skated off at Lodge Corner, just doing enough to get back on track and finish the race in eighth.

Luke Williams, Jamie Thorburn and Nico Gruber nabbed fifth, sixth and seventh as a result.

Sebastian Job would’ve been on the tail of this group had the B-M Racing driver not pitched himself into the gravel at the Shell hairpin after clipping the rear of Thorburn’s car.

Clubman Pre-’90 winner Simon Fleet finished 13th overall, just beating Clubman Post-’89 winner George McDonald.
