Tarling on top in Thruxton Historic qualifying

Reigning HSCC Historic Formula Ford 1600 champion Richard Tarling put his Jamun T2 on pole for the Carless Racing Fuels Formula Ford 1600 race at Thruxton.

Donington Park winner Tarling initially set a 1m24.901s lap around the circuit, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend, but was knocked off the top spot by fellow Donington winner Ben Mitchell.

Tarling quickly jumped back to the top of the times with a 1m23.975s lap, ending the session 0.215s faster than Mitchell.

Championship leader Cameron Jackson qualified third in a Lola T200, ahead of Callum Grant and Maxim Bartell, both driving Merlyns.

Tiff Needell, in a Lotus 69F, qualified sixth and was fastest of the Over 50s class, with Sam Mitchell, Ben Tusting, Matthew Wrigley, and Cormac Flanagan completing the top 10.
