Foster carries Festival pace into WHT with heat three pole

Formula Ford Festival winner Joey Foster took pole position for heat three of the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone by just over 0.4 seconds in soaking wet conditions.

Foster set a 1m13.399s in his Don Hardman-run Ray to just edge out Jordan Dempsey’s Kevin Mills Racing Spectrum as the only drivers to dip under the 1m14s mark.

Foster set the pace from the very start and was over 1.5s clear of the field for the first part of qualifying, before Dempsey halved that advantage and then closed again late on to within half a second.

Richard Tarling was third quickest in his Jamun T2 and the quickest of all the historic runners, while BRDC British Formula 3 driver Jamie Chadwick, making her FF1600 debut, improved steadily throughout to finish fourth for Graham Brunton Racing.

Michael Mallock was the second quickest of the historic runners in fifth, with Dempsey’s KMR team-mate John Ferguson rounding out the top six ahead of Jamie Jardine.

Jack Wolfenden recovered from an early spin at Copse to take eighth in his Firman.
