James Roe Jr ensured his place in the Formula Ford Festival final by winning the Last Chance Race sponsored by Cam-Tech Security.
Roe won in a tight three-way battle with second place man Ross Martin and podium finisher Michael Eastwell.
Poleman Martin led the early part of the race in his Graham Brunton Racing Ray but Roe passed for the lead on the inside of Paddock Hill bend at half distance, having started fourth on the grid.
The Ray of Martin and Eastwell’s Spectrum remained in close attendance with Roe until the end and the drivers secured a start in the Festival final.
Dean Venter also qualifies by finishing fourth after a lonely race in his Souley Motorsport Ray, while Klaus-Dieter Hackel also gets through after an untroubled run to fifth in his Pre90 Van Diemen.
There was a frenzied multi-car fight for the final qualifying slot in sixth, and Vincent Jay claimed the place in his Ray at the last by passing Matthew Chisholm’s Van Diemen at Clearways on the last lap.
First reserves for the final are Chisholm, Mark Armstrong, Miles Johnston and Adam Fathers.
Jordan Dempsey was a reserve for this race after his earlier exclusion from his battle with Jamie Thorburn but did not make the start.
Thorburn went off at Graham Hill Bend and retired from the Last Chance Race, missing out on the final.
