Morris claims Brands Classic FF1600 pole

Rick Morris took pole position for the penultimate round of the Luna Logistics Classic Formula Ford 1600 Championship at the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, beating champion elect Adriano Medeiros with a late effort.

Morris led the early part of the damp and drying qualifying session in his Royale, but with around two-thirds of the session gone had his best beaten by Medeiros in his Van Diemen.

Morris then reclaimed top spot with a minute to go with a lap that was 0.15s under that of Medeiros. Medeiros then improved his own best at the last, but he was a mere two-hundredths shy of Festival legend Morris.

Mark Armstrong was third quickest in his Van Diemen with a mark half a second off Morris. Scott Mansell and Simon Jackson completed the top five, both with best times within a second of pole. Stuart Kestenbaum dominated Class B in his Crossle, qualifying sixth overall.
