Scott Mansell snatched victory from Rick Morris in the penultimate round of the Luna Logistics Classic Formula Ford 1600 Championship while third for Adriano Medeiros secured the Van Diemen driver back-to-back titles.
Mansell spent the majority of the race on the tail of Morris’ Royale. He led briefly at the midpoint of the race but Morris soon retook the position and led until the final lap. As the rain got heavier, Morris turned back to defence and ran wide at Clearways, allowing Mansell through just before the chequered flag.
Having fallen behind Mansell off of the line, Medeiros slid onto the grass at Graham Hill Bend early in the race and his Van Diemen fell behind Mark Armstrong’s similar car. As the pair battled, they fell away from the leading duo and allowed Simon Jackson to close in before the Javelin driver spun and dropped to the back of the field.
Medeiros found a way past Armstrong mid-way through the race but couldn’t close the gap to the race leaders. He finished more than 10s behind Morris, but with a comfortable gap to Armstrong.
Stuart Kestenbaum crossed the line fifth overall, taking Class B victory.
After his early spin, Jackson managed to recover to sixth, ahead of Nicholas Gibson and Kevin Mansell, who shared the track with son Scott for the first time. Oli Playle and Peter Daly completed the top ten.
